The mural depicts an epic shikaar set in 1564, amidst a landscape of rolling hills. The story unfolds between Farhad and his consort Shirin, who vie to bring home the larger bounty of pheasants. The twist lies in the hunters—trained leopards, Gum and Shuda, each representing one side, traversing the territory to secure the kill.
Shirin, seated near her sumptuous tented chaise lounge, draws periodically on her hookah. She listens to ghazals on her gramophone and absorbs court gossip from her confidant, Sifar, seated nearby. Meanwhile, a party of hot air balloons unfurls, scouring the area for watering holes.
Farhad, regal and unfazed, sits with a meditative gaze. His pet leopard, Shuda, has already returned home. His guardian angel, in the form of a hawk named Baazi, scans the horizon, ensuring all is well. The red berries scattered throughout the landscape are potent opiates, adding an ethereal quality to the scene.
Farhad and Shirin understand that in this game, neither can truly lose, for those are the rules of love. It’s a game of life, and both are willing players, savouring every moment of this timeless dance.
